The aim of cosmetic dentistry is to improve dental health, aesthetics and function of patients’ teeth. Cosmetic dentistry has evolved significantly over the last decade. Technologies and materials used currently by dentists are highly advanced, allowing dentists to rebuild patients’ teeth to a very high standard.
The most popular cosmetic treatment is teeth whitening, also known as “teeth bleaching”. While there are various methods to whiten teeth (bleaching gel, strips etc.), dentist supervised treatments such us laser bleaching remain the recommended and most efficient way to lighten discolored teeth.
Dental veneers are thin, custom made laminates cemented into the teeth. They are made either of porcelain or composite material and dentists use veneers for so called ‘Hollywood smile restoration”. Veneers are a quick option for patients who have crooked teeth (and do not want to wear braces) but are also used for closing gaps, chipped or highly discoloured teeth.
Dental bridges are popular cosmetic treatments used for replacing missing teeth. Dental crowns are used to “repair” weak or damaged teeth or in cases were veneers cannot be applied. In a dental bridge, a false tooth or teeth are fused between two crowns to cover the gap left by a missing tooth. Bridges and crowns, often made from materials such as porcelain or other precious metals, not only do improve the aesthetics of your smile but also help to correct the bite and even improve the speech.
Teeth reshaping is a cosmetic treatment which is used for altering or reshaping chipped, crooked or overlapping teeth. The treatment presents an alternative to braces or veneers for some patients. The surface of teeth is only minimally affected and a few millimeters of tooth-colored laminate is involved. Bonding is another cosmetic treatment where a dental composite material is applied to a tooth's surface, hardened and then polished. This method is often used for cracked or chipped teeth. Some patients require gum lift which is a cosmetic treatment that raises and sculpts the gum line. Gum rebuild treatment is sometimes undertaken before more advanced cosmetic dental work is performed.
