Dental implants costs in England, Poland and Abroad
Dental implants have become widely available in private clinics across the UK. However, dental bridges and dentures are still more popular for missing teeth restorations, mainly because the cost of implant treatments in the UK is high. The cost of dental implants in the UK varies and depends on the location of the practice and usually dentist’s experience. The implant treatment consists of 4 or 5 separate stages and patients need to know the cost of each procedure in order to work out the final cost. Some clinics try to lure patients by offering low cost implants. However, they usually advertise only the surgical insertion of the implant which is merely the first step. It is advised that patients ask their dentists for the full price of the whole treatment before the work commences.
Below is the break down of a dental implant treatment (with the average UK cost for each stage):
Implantology consultation with X rays
An implant consultation with a dentist in the UK costs from £50 to £150. To assess the suitability for the treatment, a panoramic X-ray (costs from £50-£80) is usually sufficient although mainly for single tooth restorations. With more than one teeth missing, often a CT scan is required, which in England costs more than £400
Bone graft or sinus lift (optional)
Some patients (with a significant bone loss) might require a bone graft or sinus lift before the implant/s is inserted. One unit of the regeneration material with the surgery costs around £750 in the UK
Surgery
This includes the cost of a dental implant and placement. Prices differ as there are many implant brands available in the market. However, UK dentists charge on average £1100 (medium size, European brand). The treatment is often performed under local anesthesia (UK cost - £50)
Implant abutment
This is a post that connects the crown and the implant. It costs on average £350 in the UK
Crown placement
This is the final part of the treatment. The cost of the crown depends on the material it is built from. The price in the UK ranges from £400 to even £1200 per unit
So the true, average cost of an implantology treatment in the UK is around £2500! It can even cost as much as £3300 when the additional treatments are needed. No surprise that only affluent residents can afford implants in the UK.
