Unlike Warsaw, which was totally destroyed during Second World War, Krakow was largely undamaged. The city has been dubbed ‘the new Prague’ and it certainly lives up to this statement. Krakow is listed by UNESCO as one of the world's twelve most significant historic sites. The city is indeed a visual treat, with the Wawel being one of the most striking royal residences in Europe. Krakow is home to the largest medieval market square in Europe, dozens of museums and galleries and architecture spanning the last 800 years. The Old Town district of Kraków is home to about six thousand historic sites and more than two million works of art. Krakow is easy to get around by public transport and very pleasant to walk in. Trams and buses are cheap and straightforward. Numerous tourist offices sell multi-day passes that also give free access to museums.
